$10,000 Contribution to NvRA Scholarship Programs

The Give Something Back Foundation (GSBF) has made a $10,000.00 contribution to help further the Nevada Restaurant Association’s Scholarship Program. This money is to be used for actual scholarships in 2006.

The Give Something Back Foundation was developed by Bob Carr, founder and CEO of Heartland Payment Systems, who worked his way through college at the University of  Illinois food service division and at an Arby’s Roast Beef restaurant through graduate school. Bob’s mother worked as a waitress for 35 years to raise her six children. The roots of GSBF run deep in the restaurant industry and many restaurant and hotel workers have no way to help their children go to college. Perhaps this program will help at least one or more children to receive a college education. NvRA is both grateful and honored to partner with GSBF in helping to provide scholarships to Nevada students dreaming of a career in the hospitality industry.

I have been in Nevada as your president for a little more than four months and it;s been of course a very busy and exciting time.  Thank you for welcoming me so warmly and for your continued support.  Remember, the Nevada Restaurant Association works for you.  You're the expert when it comes to the restaurant industry.  Your input is extremely valuable to us and the rest of the restaurant industry...don't assume someone else will let us know about something that is affecting your business; and besides, you are probably not alone.  We launched this blog to help create a more dynamic discussion about those issues affecting our industry and we look to update as things unfold.

17,000 Restaurants to Participate Today

Today, more than 17,000 restaurants across the country are participating in Dine for America, our nationwide, industry-wide fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross and its hurricane relief efforts. Nevada has 117 restaurants signed on and as you know many of our restaurants have already been had fund raisers for the gulf region.

We want to remind all of you that your support - whether you're involved as a participating restaurant or you're dining out at any of the participating locations - is greatly appreciated. We hope you'll also encourage your work colleagues, friends and family to also Dine for America today! Whether it's your morning cup of coffee, a business lunch or dinner with friends and family - these every activities can make a significant difference to those who have suffered the devastation of the Gulf Coast hurricanes.

National Restaurant Association President and CEO Steve Anderson is in New York City today conducting various national media interviews to promote Dine for America. In addition to early morning appearances on CNN Headline News, CBS Early Show and CNBC's Squawk Box, Steve will also be on FOX News/Your World with Neil Cavuto this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST. Additionally, in case you missed it - a full-page, color ad is in today's USA Today (Life section, p.5D), promoting Dine for America.

We hope you will do your part to helping make today one of the most successful and significant industry-wide efforts that will help raise millions to assist those in need in the affected region.

For those who are participating, we also would like to encourage you and your staff to capture today's activities by sending us any photos or video footage that you might take to help us with any post-event promotion. Additionally, we may be able to use the photos for our web site and/or newsletter, and recommend you do the same.

Nevada Restaurant Association Invites Entire Assembly to Dinner

Earlier this week the Nevada Restaurant Association sent invitations to the entire state assembly inviting them to dine out on October 5, 2005 as part of the association's "Dine for America" campaign.

So far over 15,700 restaurants throughout the country will band together for a benefit event, "Dine for America," which is being led by both the state and the National Restaurant Associations to raise funds for American Red Cross hurricane disaster relief. The number of participating restaurants from the State of Nevada is currently 120. We urge you to participate in this event in any way that you can so that "Dine for America" can be as beneficial as possible to the American Red Cross. In fact, let us know where you will be dining and we will follow-up with the restaurant for you.

The restaurant industry has swiftly responded in an overwhelming, united effort to help fellow Americans who have been impacted by the devastation of hurricane activity in the Gulf Coast region. By participating in this effort you will join restaurateurs throughout the country who are working with federal, state and local officials, as well as with relief organizations, to help people displaced by the recent hurricanes. We have over 100,000 employees out of work in this region. Relief efforts include offering housing and transportation assistance to displaced employees and helping displaced workers find new jobs in the industry.

Proceeds from The Event Will Benefit The Nation’s Hurricane Victims

The Nevada Restaurant Association, the leading advocate for the Nevada restaurant industry, announces the participation of more than 100 Nevada restaurants participating in the “Dine for America” event on Wednesday, October 5. Nevada will be joining the already 12,700-plus restaurants nationwide for the national fundraising effort.

Participating restaurants will be donating portions of the day’s proceeds to support the American Red Cross and help those affected by recent hurricanes. Daytime television host Tony Danza is featured as the National Restaurant Association’s spokesperson for “Dine for America.” He is featured on TV and radio commercials promoting the event and asking for the nation’s support. On September 22nd local restaurants raised funds to help with the relief efforts for the Gulf Region.  One local restaurant, Metro Pizza advertised on their Billboard inviting potential customers to come in-dine and help with a worthy cause.  The restauranteurs said that the evening was a huge success.  Each restaurant set aside a percentage of sales to be distributed via the American Red Cross to those that were affected by the Hurricanes.

90 Nevada Restaurants to Take Part in Dine for America

National Restaurant Association Announces 8,000+ Restaurants Nationwide Participating in Dine for America Event, Exceeds Total Registered Participants from 9/11 Benefit in 2001 Nation's Restaurants Come to the Aid of Gulf Coast Hurricane Victims with Nationwide Dine Out Day on October 5th. 90 of these are from the State of Nevada.
